Hooge Crater Café and Museum
The small church in which the museum is established dates from the 1920s. It was built across the road of Hooge Crater Cemetery in commemoration of the soldiers that were killed in the area during the First World War. In 1992-1993, the church and adjacent community school were bought by the De Smul-Ceuninck family and they renovated the buildings. The inside of the former church is now a museum and the former school a themed café. The museum opened its doors on Easter 1994 and from January 2009, it has been run by Niek and Ilse Benoot-Watteyne.
The café is an excellent place for lunch while on the Ypres Salient battlefields and the private museum houses one of the best First World War collections on the Western Front. A MUST SEE LOCATION!.
