In The Footsteps was the brainchild of Ian R Gumm, its founder. In 2002, he had the idea to change his
pasion and hobby into a part-time business and started leading Genealogy Tours to the battlefields
of France and Flanders. From these humble beginnings it grew into his full-time occupation.
By 2009, the business had grown too big for him to manage the administration as well as research and
lead tours on the battlefield and it was at that point that Jo came on board as our Business
Adminsitrator. Under their joint direction, the business continued to grow and in 2010 they began to
recruit additional battlefield historians to lead their tours. Today, they have a team of battlefield
historians that can cover all the major battlefields around the globe and many of the lesser known ones
as well.
You can meet the team by visiting our Our Team of Battlefield
Historians page.
