Bob Darby has been guiding battlefields tours for some 20 years and took early retirement from a successful financial services career to concentrate on his passion ... battlefield guiding! He is Badged Member No 29 of the International Guild of Battlefield Guides, a mark of competence awarded to him by his peers.
Bob served Her Majesty in the Parachute Regiment both as Regular and Territorial with operational
experience in Northern Ireland and on Op Corporate, the repossession of the Falklands Islands in
1982, where he served with 3rd Bn The Parachute Regiment. He then went on to serve with HM Sultan
Qaboos of Oman Land Forces as a Contact Officer where he spent 7 very rewarding years.
Bob regularly conducts battle tours at Staff Study level for the British Army having recently
written and led tours to the Falklands Op Corporate 1982, Monte Cassino 1944, Rhine Crossing Op
Varsity 1945, Holland Op Market Garden 1944 and Normandy 1944.
In addition to adult/military tours Bob takes students on educational tours to Northern France and
Belgium, Berlin and Auschwitz/Krakow as part of their historical learning syllabus. Currently
working with the Institute of Education in delivering the First World War Centennial programme until
2019.
