In the footsteps BATTLEFIELD TOURS

Messines Ridge Tour

On 7th June 1917 General Herbert Plumer's British Second Army attack the German Imperial Army positions along the Messines Ridge to push them off the domminating high ground. So long as this high ground remained in German hands Field Marshall Haig's planned assault in the Ypres Salient in could not take place. In preparation for the assault 25 mines were dug to be set-off immediately before the attack was launched and to the southern end of the area the ANZAC soldiers would be going into action for the first time. Join our guide as he recounts the story of what happened.

On one of our personalised and customised battlefield tours you can visit the memorials that mean the most to you and explore the battlefields that you want to see.  You can pay your respects at the CWGC and ABMC Cemeteries and visit the museums of your choosing.
